Yukata Clothing History
The name "yukata" comes from the word "Yu" (bath) and "Katabira" (under clothing). Thousands of years ago, Court Nobles wore linen "Yukatabira" which were draped loosely after taking a bath. It gradually became worn by Japanese warriors and then by the general public when the sophisticated Japanese public bath became popular. Today, the traditional Japanese yukata are widely used for everything from dances, casual clothing in the summer, to simple night attire. In Japan, the yukata is the most popular daily clothing wear and is beloved for its 100% lightweight cotton fabric. (The main difference between a kimono and yukata is the fabric. Yukata are made of a lightweight cotton and less formal. Kimono clothing are more elaborate in pattern and made of a medium weight fabric (medium weight cotton, cotton sateen, polyester).

All of our japanese clothing are made and imported from Japan and includes a matching 1 1/2" sash belt and full length in size. For normal daily or night attire, just the matching cotton sash which is provided with the yukata is worn. For public occasions a larger wider obi belt is worn. The wide obi belt is simply wrapped around the waist and tucked in at the edge. When shipped - all matching sash belts are stitched into the sleeve or collar. We now offer the wide obi belts and butterfly obi belts for formal or public use. All clothing made of 100% cotton, will shrink two to three inches in length after wash. Length is measured from the shoulder to the bottom of the yukata.

Pine & Crane Blue Yukata
Beautiful cranes and japanese pines with gold detail grace the blue background. Our yukata measures 56" in length, 24" from shoulder seam to shoulder seam and made of 100% light woven cotton. Includes matching belt. Fits approximately up to a size x-large. For formal or public use, add our cream or black wide obi belt for a beautiful match.

Koi Yukata
Beautiful japanese koi fish and waves grace our indigo blue yukata. Available in two sizes. Includes matching belt, 100% tightly woven cotton.

60" long, fits approximately up to size XL (shoulder seam to shoulder seam 25")
62" long wide, fits approximately size 2XL-3XL (shoulder seam to shoulder seam 30")

Kanji Symbol Yukata
Very attractive, our yukata is graced with lovely kanji symbols on a dark navy blue background. Measures 59" in length, 25" from shoulder to shoulder seam. Made in Japan of 100% cotton and includes matching belt. Fits approximately up to a size x-large. For formal or public use, add our cream or black wide obi belt.

Wide Obi Belt
Made in Japan, our wide obi belt is worn over the yukata or kimono for public occasions and festivals to give a formal appearance. (The small matching sash belt that comes with a kimono or yukata is usually worn at home, bath houses or as night attire.) Our wide obi belt measures 6 feet long and 3 1/2" in width. The wide obi sash belt is simply wrapped around the waist several times to desired width and the end of the belt is tucked under. Made in Japan of 100% cotton. One size fits all and available in black or cream.
